The human version (we wrote this, not the council)
This section explains how Design Codes will work in practice. The plan will be supported by a range of codes, and in some places more than one may apply, such as an area-wide code and a site-specific code together. Where no local code exists, the National Design Guide is used instead. The information needed to show compliance will vary with the type and scale of development, and early discussion with the council's Development Management team is encouraged.

Design Codes
Development proposals that comply with all relevant local Design Codes will be
supported and must provide sufficient information to clearly demonstrate how design
expectations of relevant Design Codes have been met.
The purpose of a Design Code is to set out a clear design framework so that proposals
that accord with its parameters can be approved. Design Codes are not intended to
stifle innovation or creativity and there may be instances where proposals come
forward that are not consistent with the Design Code. In such circumstances,
proposals must still adhere to the principles of good design as set out in Policy DS.18
and be of high quality. Departures from the Design Code must be fully justified and
will be considered on their own merits.

2.12.14 The South Warwickshire Local Plan will be supported by a range of Design
Codes. Where such a code exists, the code must be used to guide the design of
proposals. In some locations, more than one code may apply covering different
geographies – for example an area-wide code and a site-specific code may both apply.

each instance, and these requirements will be proport
