Employment Allocations
6.495 Site allocation policies identify specific parcels of land for employment development to support the economic growth strategy set out in the Local Plan. In accordance with the NPPF, local plans are required to provide a sufficient supply of land to meet identified employment needs, support economic growth, improve productivity and provide opportunities for businesses to invest, expand and innovate over the plan period. The Buckinghamshire Employment Land Review identifies a requirement for approximately 219 hectares of employment land to 2045, which is addressed through a combination of existing commitments, safeguarded employment areas and the allocations identified in this chapter. Collectively, the employment allocations provide approximately 271 hectares of employment land, ensuring that the Local Plan not only meets but exceeds the identified employment land requirement and provides flexibility and choice in the supply of employment land across Buckinghamshire over the plan period.
6.496 The employment allocations play an important role in delivering the Local Plan's economic objectives by providing a range and choice of sites to meet the needs of different sectors, including office, research and development, industrial, storage and distribution uses. The allocations support Buckinghamshire's key economic strengths, including advanced manufacturing, life sciences, creative industries, film and television, and space and satellite technologies, whilst ensuring that employment growth is directed towards sustainable and accessible locations. These policies establish the principles of development, including the broad type of employment uses expected, site capacity, infrastructure requirements and key constraints, providing a transparent basis for decision-making and helping to ensure that the Local Plan's economic growth strategy is delivered effectively.
6.497 The employment allocations are grouped into a series of tiers reflecting their strategic significance and economic role within Buckinghamshire. Together they provide a balanced portfolio of employment opportunities, supporting nationally significant economic assets, strategic growth locations, local business needs, rural enterprises and town centre regeneration, whilst ensuring that new jobs are aligned with planned housing and infrastructure provision.
